The MikroTik NetMetal ax is a radio that supports the Wi-Fi 6 standard. It supports IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ax protocols in the 2.4 GHz band and IEEE 802.11 a/n/ac/ax in the 5 GHz band. It features a dual-core ARM IPQ-5010 processor clocked at 800 MHz and 256 MB of RAM. The device is enclosed in a hermetic housing with an IP66 protection rating. Special flaps on both sides protect the connectors and ports from water ingress. The device is designed for pole mounting, and the necessary accessories are included in the package. The NetMetal ax has one gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000 Mbps) and one SFP slot that supports a throughput of 2.5 Gbps. The Ethernet port features PoE input (passive PoE 18 - 28 V DC). You can also power it using a standard DC jack (voltage range 12 - 28 V DC).
The additional product features a nanoSIM slot and a miniPCIe slot. You can use an LTE or LoRa modem to further expand the device's capabilities. NetMetal ax also has a USB port, but you can only use either miniPCIe or USB at a time. The main application of the product is to work as a client device or base station (depending on the antennas used) in point-to-multipoint networks. It can also be used as an outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access point, especially in places where you need to use an LTE cellular connection. NetMetal ax will also be appreciated by those using LoraWAN-based IoT networks.
Wi-Fi 6 AX3000
The NetMetal ax is a Wi-Fi 6 radio that supports the IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ax protocols in the 2.4 GHz band and the IEEE 802.11 a/n/ac/ax protocols in the 5 GHz band. The maximum theoretical throughput is 574 Mbps in 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps in 5 GHz. Support for two bands simultaneously makes the NetMetal ax suitable not only for radio networks as a base station / PTP device, but also for creating an outdoor Wi-Fi wireless network. It is equipped with 2 RP-SMA type connectors to which you can connect an antenna.
For outdoor use
The offered product has a housing fully adapted for outdoor use, with an IP66 protection rating. The components are protected against water and dust ingress, and the ports and connectors are also protected. The set includes a bracket for mounting on a mast or DIN rail.
1 gigabit Ethernet port, 1 SFP slot, 2 DC inputs
The device is equipped with 1 Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000 Mb/s) and 1 SFP slot, which supports a throughput of 2.5 Gb/s. You can power the device using passive PoE (voltage range 18-28 V DC) or a 2.1/5.5 mm DC jack (12-28 V DC). The set includes a 24 V / 1.2 A power supply with PoE injector. The maximum power consumption of the device is 25 W.
MiniPCIe slot
Inside the housing is a miniPCIe slot for mounting an LTE or LoRa modem. LTE will be useful for providing a backup connection in most configurations, and there is a 1 nanoSIM slot inside. A LoRa modem will be useful if you use an IoT system, thanks to NetMetal ax you can connect sensors that are far away from the main location.
Usage
NetMetal ax is a universal device that works well in many different applications. The natural application will be to create a base station with a suitable sector antenna or point-to-point connections with a directional antenna. NetMetal ax can also be used as an outdoor access point to create a Wi-Fi network. An additional advantage is the possibility of connecting an LTE or LoRa modem, thus expanding the capabilities of the device.
